Rimington Award

Well John Estes didn't win the Rimington Award for Outstanding play by a Center, it was won by Maurkice Pouncey from Florida. Congratulations to him for the award. We wish it would have gone to John though because in my and most Warrior fans he was the one who deserved it.

Game Final

Wisconsin wins 51-10 taking Hawai'i's record to 3-5 WAC, 6-7 Overall

Thanks to the players for another great football season, that was a great comeback in the last third of the season but we fell one short. Thanks again to the seniors and here's to next year and challenging Boise State for the WAC title.

Aloha

Game Update #2

4:40 to go in the fourth quarter Wisconsin has it well in hand 44-10. The Badgers played one hell of a game, congratulations to them. You know that the game is over when the opposing team has one of their linebackers kick the extra point. Now we can just focus on the seniors and wishing them the best going forward in the rest of their college year and to the future roads that they will travel.

Mahalo for another fun and exciting Warrior Football season!

Santa Sighting

Santa was spotted running down the field with 4:30 left in the 3rd quarter. He was promptly detained by security and escorted off the field. By the looks of him he needs to start eating a little more.

Rainbow Wahine Volleyball

Great job ladies on the defeat of USC, The Rainbow Wahine now move on to the National Regional match against Stanford. Good Luck, and continue on towards bringing that title to the islands.

Aloha!

Game Update

Wisconsin leads 27-3

The Warriors have to come out in the third quarter and start putting some points on the board or this game is all but over. Wisconsin is just running down Hawai'i's throat. The first half was all Badger offense. Lets go Warriors and get back in this game there is still time.

Go Warriors!!!!!!!1

Gameday

The day of the big game is here. This one has a lot riding on a victory. Not just for a Bowl berth, but also a winning season, and a win for the seniors.

Game food is ready, Hawai'i gear is on, now just sit back and wait for the kickoff!

I'm going to say UH wins 35-31 in OT.

Go Warriors!!!!!!

Friday, December 4, 2009

Congrats to Inoke Funaki for his selection to the NCAA Football Coaches Academy, he deserves this honor. He has stated he wants to go into coaching and I cant think of a better player to go get training to one day follow this dream.

Hopefully John Estes will finally get the honor he deserves by winning the Rimington Trophy for his outstanding play at center. Estes has been in the running for this award virtually from the start of him coming to the University of Hawai'i.

Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl Update

Just heard on ESPN Radio that Southern Methodist University (SMU) has accepted an invitation to play in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

This makes the game against Wisconsin even more important, because with a win the Warriors would be able to face off against their former coach. A UH/SMU Bowl game would be a fun game to watch due to the same offensive play calling. Go Warriors so we can have one hell of a fun bowl game.

No. 3 Wahine get 12th seed

The No. 3 Rainbow Wahine will get the 12th seed in the NCAA Tournament where they will start of facing New Mexico. Good luck and bring home the National Title.

UH Basketball Updates

(MENS) UH vs New Mexico: The warriors lost 83-71 giving them a record of 2-3 overall

(WOMENS) UH vs (17)Arizona State: The Wahine lost 65-53 giving them a record of 1-3 overall

3 Straight!!!!!

Our Defense finally has arrived in the last 3rd of the season, helping to seal a win for the Warriors Saturday night against the Navy Midshipmen. Our defense came up big in the final series of the fourth quarter where they held Navy by sacking quarterback Ricky Dobbs on the last two plays of the game.

This sets up a great showdown with Wisconsin, as this game not only will give Hawai'i another winning season it will also allow the Warriors to become Bowl eligible. This would allow Hawai'i to go to the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl if they win. The game will start at 6:30 HT (8:30 PT my time) so i am looking forward to Hawai'i taking on the Badgers it should be a great game to watch.

Wahine Sweep Awards

The Rainbow Wahine swept the top honors at the WAC awards ceremony taking Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, and WAC Player of the Week. These are great accomplishments for the UH Volleyball program, congratulations to all of the volleyball team and we look forward to another great season next year.

2 in a row

Congratulations to the Warriors on two wins in a row. That was a nail biter, but they pulled it out in the end winning on a touchdown by Leon Wright-Jackson to put the Warriors ahead 17-10. The defense stopped the Spartans on their possession to seal the win for the warriors improving their record to 3-5 WAC and 5-6 Overall. Shane Austin did very well throwing for 299 yards and rushing for a touchdown.

This game showed that the defense is making definite strides towards being able to control opposing offenses. Now we will just have to hope that this continues against Navy and Wisconsin. These will be tough games but easily within the reach of getting wins.

Rainbow Wahine

Congratulations to the Rainbow Wahine's for there perfect season. They finished the season 16-0 with the win over Utah State. They now head to Las Vegas for the WAC Tournament that begins on Nov 23rd. The Rainbow Wahine have the number 1 seed and will start in the semi's on the 24th. Good luck and bring the title home.

Saturday, November 14, 2009

Two and counting

Well the Warrior's have apparently righted the ship and are looking to move towards finishing the season out on a very positive note. There are a couple of big games still to come but it is great to finally be putting games in the win column. The Warriors will beat San Jose State then look towards finishing the season out with an excellent 2 game stretch, facing Navy And Wisconsin.

The UH vs Navy game is going to be one of the rowdiest games of the season at home due to the large naval forces posted there that will be attending the game.

Great job Warriors lets keep it rolling!!!!!

Hawai'i vs NMSU

Well the time has come to see if the Warriors can start a winning streak. On paper the warriors should be able to win this game pretty handily. The main key will be for the continued improvement of the Warrior defense. The defense stepped up last game and we can only hope that this is a sign of defensive play to come. Go Warriors and beat NMSU

Saturday, November 7, 2009

Finally the 1st WAC Win

The Warriors got their first WAC victory Saturday night, by destroying Utah State 49-36. Hawai'i put up an outstanding 698 total offensive yards. The Warriors fell just short of their all time record of 747 total yards they put up in the 2003 Hawai'i vs Army game. The biggest surprise was that Hawai'i discovered the running game and totaled an amazing 360 rushing yards. The last time Hawai'i racked up this many rushing yards was in 1996.

This was an all around great performance from the Warriors. It was great to see Greg Salas return to the level of play we were accustomed to in the start of the season. Bryant Moniz (Mo) had a tremendous game 21-36 for 337 yards 4 TD's 2int and 76 yards rushing. He has placed himself solidly as the lead quarterback, shedding any doubt any of us fans may of had when Greg Alexander was lost for the season.

I am looking forward to next weeks game against New Mexico State to see if the warriors can keep this ball rolling and try to salvage the season.

Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Hawai'i vs Utah St

Well this is probably the best chance that Hawai'i has toend this losing skid. The matchup is definitely in the favor of the warriors. As long as Mo can continue his progression as a high caliber quarterback and Javonte Taylor continues to improve this should be a very exciting game to watch. Hopefully the defense will show up for this game because we are getting torn up on that side of the ball.

WAC Score Update 2

Fresno State wins 34-3

Ryan Mathews went off with 157 yards 2 touchdowns!

Colin Kaepernick also had a monster game with 408 total yards and 6 touchdowns 4 of those were rushing touchdowns.

WAC scores update

Idaho vs Nevada: Nevada won in a high scoring affair 70-45

LT vs Utah State: Utah State won 23-21

Fresno State vs NMSU: Fresno State leads 34-3 in the fourth quarter

Boise State vs Hawai'i: Boise State leads at halftime 34-0

Mo out with concussion

Bryant Moniz has had his helmet taken away from him due to a concussion that he recieved in the 1st quarter against Boise State. Shane Austin will get his first career start in the second quarter. Hopefully Mo will recover quickly so hell be ready to go in the next game. Good Luck Shane go out there and kick some butt.

Outcome Prediction

I'm going to be one of the very few going for this but I say Hawai'i pulls it out in the end and beats Boise State 35-33 in OT. Not really anything concrete stat wise to back this up other than just the fan in me coming out.

Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Boise State offense vs Hawai'i Defense

Boise is a fairly balanced run/pass team with about 55 more running plays than pass plays for the season. The run game unfortunately for Hawai'i is one of our defense's glaring holes. Right now I don't have the utmost confidence in coach McMackin having made the proper adjustments to the defense to shore them up against the Broncoes run attack. That being said, even a slight tweek might force Boise into more of a passing game which will give Hawai'i an outsiders chance at pulling out a victory in this game.

Hawai'i vs Boise State

This Saturday is the big showdown between Hawai'i and the 5th ranked Broncos. Hawai'i has to figure out how to stop the run by game time or this is going to be a very ugly game to watch.

To be totally honest Boise State is a better team in almost all areas, Hawai'i is going to have to play almost perfect football to have a chance at winning this game. While I hope this is the case, I will be more than glad just to see a drastic improvement in our defense. The Warriors have the offense to stay in the game if the Broncos can be stopped or turn the ball over.

I'll be breaking down the match up as the week goes along leading up to game time.

Dave Shoji Earns His 1,000th Career Victory Saturday Night

Dave Shoji http://www.hawaiiathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=176 Earns His 1,000th Career Victory Saturday Night as the Wahine beat New Mexico State. Sorry about the tardy post on this, this is a great milestone for a very beloved coach as he became only the second volleyball coach in NCAA history to record 1000 wins in a career. It was really great that he was able to achieve this moment at home in the Stan Sheriff Center. Congratulations again coach!

WR Depth Chart

Right now with the Bradley out for the season it looks like the depth chart now will be:

1) Greg Salas
2) Jovonte Taylor
3) Kealoha Pilares
4) Royce Pollard

All of the WR will have to step up and take on the hole that the loss of Bradley has made.

Bradley lost for season

Today Stephen Tsai HawaiiWarriorBeat.com Editor reports that Rodney Bradley suffered a season ending broken leg in Saturdays loss to Idaho.

My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Here is to him making a speedy recovery and coming back in great form for the 2010 season opener.

Saturday, October 17, 2009

MO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man this guy is for real. He is continuing to improve every game. I was looking at this game as a definite indicator of what his potential as the Hawai'i quarterback would be, and man did he deliver. He was 29 of 40 for 356 yds passing with 1 TD 1 INT, 32 yds rushing with 1TD. So if this is the kind of play that we can expect every game the next 2 1/2 years should be very exciting to watch.

WAC Update

Hawai'i vs Idaho: Idaho won 35-23

LT vs NMSU: LT won 45-7

Nevada vs Utah St.: Nevada won 35-32

Fresno St vs San Jose St. : Fresno State won 41-21

Rodney Bradley

Rodney was taken off the field in an ambulance, rumor is it may be a broken leg or knee injury with broken leg as the front runner. Thoughts and prayers are with him. I hope that he was just taken as a precaution with no serious injury. Will update as I hear any new info.

WAC Update

Boise State won their game against Tulsa on Wednesday night by the score of 28-21
Well hopefully the game against the Vandals will go in favor of Hawai'i this week. I have put Bryant Moniz (Mo) and Greg Salas on my college fantasy roster so I am counting on Mo to put up at least the same numbers as he did against Fresno State. I am banking on Salas rebounding and getting back to his normal form, these last two games have not been overly special fantasy wise. Overall it would be just fine to have a Warrior win to end this streak at 3.

Tough Loss

Well what to say! Hawai'i was just flat outplayed on Saturday. Just returned home today from a hunting trip and found out the warriors got beat really bad. Hopefully they can get this figured out quickly, because the next 4 games will be a challenge(@Idaho, Boise State,@Nevada, Utah State). All four of these teams are having great years especially the Broncos (This game very well could be a 30-40 point loss for the Warriors).

36 Ranked 53 Ranked
Fresno State Hawaii
1929 Total Yards 1847 Total Yards
485.1 Yards Per Game 480.6 Yards Per Game
841 Passing Yards 1653 Passing Yards
210.3 Passing Yards Per Game 413.3 Passing Yards Per Game
1099 Rushing Yards 269 Rushing Yards
274.8 Rushing Yards Per Game 67.3 Rushing Yards Per Game
136 Points 102 Points
34.0 Points Per Game 25.5 Points Per Game

Total yards are almost identical, With Hawai'i having a decided advantage in passing yards, while Fresno State clearly controls the rushing game.

Biggest question marks for Hawai'i are:

1) Can they contain RB Ryan Mathews?
2) How will Bryant Moniz (Mo) do in relief for Greg Alexander?

If the answers are yes, and great then I can definitely see Hawai'i coming out with a win this Saturday.

UH/UW schedule deal

Last post of the night! Glad to see that Hawai'i and the University of Washington were able to ink out a 2 game deal! It really great to have quality opponents getting scheduled for a change. Last few years have seen to many teams like Charleston Southern on the schedule which diminishes many of the Warrior's accomplishments in the eyes of the pollsters. Want to thank both UH Athletics Director Jim Donovan and UW Athletics Director Scott Woodward for getting this deal done. This will greatly benefit both teams!

Turtle Bay Webcam

Just added this web cam for everyone to see live camera shots of the ocean view seen at Turtle Bay Resort in Oahu. People can remotely control the camera from the resorts website, which makes for interesting viewing to figure out what people are panning the camera to look at.

Just went out for a wonderful birthday dinner with the family. Had a really great time, trying to force feed my son mac and cheese...lol.

Bryant Moniz

Head coach Greg McMackin announced today in his weekly press conference that Sophmore Bryant Monizhttp://www.hawaiiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5381 will be the starting quarterback for saturdays game against the Fresno State Bulldogs. This will be Bryants first start for the warrior's. Bryant is a junior college transfer from Fresno City College. I think that he will do a very good job in replacement for Alexander. He showed great poise in relief last week against Louisiana Tech when he threw for over 100 yards.

Alexander out

Just reported that Greg Alexander is out for the remainder of the season due to an injury he suffered in the game against Louisiana Tech. Greg is scheduled for knee surgery this saturday to repair ligament damage.
